9xx-series number accessibility

Take care of potential problems with your branch exchange or private network.

For several years, the Czech Telecommunications Office (CTO) has been assigning phone numbers to private networks. In the numbering plan, this especially concerns numbers in the following series: 972 (Czech Railways), 973 (Ministry of Defense), 974 (Ministry of the Interior), 95x (Ministries, state organizations, and commercial subjects). These so-called non-geographical numbers, beginning with the digit 9, represent one range for a network covering more than one area code. The first such numbering of a private network emerged in 2002 and is used primarily for state institutions. In recent times, however, other numbers were also assigned to commercial subjects, as this process has a tendency to grow.

Current overview of assigned numbers (Czech only)

In relation with the massive increase in the use of non-geographical numbers, over the last few years O2 has noted several cases in which the customer has not been able to numbers in private networks with the above-mentioned 97x and 95x prefixes. The problem lies in the fact that several branch exchanges do not need to have newly originating non-geographical numbers entered into their routing, or forwarding, programs; it is possible that access to the entire spectrum of 9xx numbers owing to, for instance, restrictions on accessing premium rate services (sometimes also referred to as audiotext services) that also begin with the number 9 (900, 906, 909, and 976).

The O2 fixed network has been constructed in such away that it ensures access to all non-geographical numbers in the 97x and 95x series. If a request is made to block premium rate services, we only block numbers with the prefixes 900, 906, 909, and 976. Through their character and tariff, non-geographical numbers of private networks fall into the category of local calls.

Mobiles can also access numbers in the 97x and 95x series without problems.

We therefore suggest that you confirm – ideally through your service organization for branch exchanges/networks – the latest access settings for numbers in the 9xx series and request adjustments if necessary. For fast confirmation of the accessibility of non-geographical numbers, you can use the test number 955 568 999.
