WHAT IS A “COOKIE?”
A "cookie" is a piece of information, like a tag, that's stored on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit a website. It can help identify your device – like your PC or mobile phone – whenever you visit that website.
The cookie helps the website recognize whether you visited the site in the past and what sections were visited. At the same time, cookies also remember your login or user details so you don’t have to enter them very time you visit the site. For example, thanks to cookies, My O2 recognizes your settings such as language or login name.
You can deny, delete, or request browser notification of cookies. Accepting cookies is usually the best way to make sure you get the best from a website. Most PCs automatically accept them but you can change your browser settings to restrict, block or delete cookies if you want. You can also set your browser to notify you when cookies are being requested. Each browser is different, so check the 'Help' menu of your particular browser (or your mobile’s user manual) to learn how to change your cookie preferences.
Many browsers have universal privacy settings for you to choose from. It’s important to note that disabling cookies can cause a website to not function properly, or certain sections of the sites will not be accessible to you.
What kinds of cookies do we use?
On www.o2.cz websites we use two types of cookies:
- Relational cookies – are temporary and are automatically deleted immediately after you leave our website. They help customize the information you see during that visit.
- Permanent cookies – are stored in your device until you delete them, and can contain anonymous information such as the identification of your browser type.
These cookies do not identify you as an individual or reveal personal information. They only provide information on the access methods to the site and how the user arrived at the site (e.g. computer, tablet, smartphone, etc.). All data are gathered anonymously and used to understand how visitors use the site.
Permanent cookies can be used for measuring or advertising. The main function of the measuring cookie is to recognize a repeat visit to our website from the same browser, on the same device and the related activities of the visitor when browsing the site.
An advertising cookie enables a website to display targeted advertising, so that you see only the most relevant ads from O2 as well as our partners’ sites. Targeted advertising is displayed based on the behavior of an anonymous user or group of users via identification of their web browser as mentioned above. As an example, let’s say the last time you visited the site you searched for deals on mobile calling. During your next visit to the site you’ll probably see an ad with offers for mobile calling.
One of the partner websites connected to this advertising system is also www.facebook.com. You can opt-out from getting targeted advertisements on www.facebook.com about services you have been visiting on our website.
Other kinds of cookies can be used to ensure that services on our site function properly (e.g. eShop), or for questionnaires or testing parts of the website and its functionality. All this helps us increase the quality of our services and your customer satisfaction.
